Research Interests: Urban Ecology, Evolution and Adaptation, Population Genetics, Genetic Diversity, Polyploids, Biodiversity, Community Science
Beatriz majored in Biology at the University of Maryland, College Park. She completed her Bachelors degree at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County where she also obtained a Masters in Geography and Environmental Science. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences at Johns Hopkins University.
Past research topics have included urban mosquito populations, urban forest tree and vegetation diversity, urban soil quality, urban forest bird diversity, and urban forest patch dynamics.
Beatriz is committed to doing research in the community, with the community, and for the community. She strives to build relationships so that her science can be communicated to the people affected by it. She continues to work with local organizations such as Baltimore Greenspace and the Baltimore Ecosystem Study.
